Welcome to AutoCAD Map, a free-to-download.DWG viewer, converter, and 3D modeling tool. It lets you open and edit 3D.DWG files from any Autodesk software. It’s easy to share your models online, and if you need to convert your 3D model to another format, you can easily do so. You can even publish your own web pages and view them in your browser. (If you’re using your tablet, you may be able to view the web pages by connecting it to your PC.)
WMF stands for Windows MetaFile. It’s a file format similar to the.jpg “Windows Bitmap” format. WMF files are pre-loaded on a computer or mobile device and can be used by Windows programs without having to download anything. For example, you can email them to someone so they can view a map on their mobile device. WMF files also have a file extension of “.wmf”. The meta-file (.wmf) extension is a bit of an oddity–it resembles the “files” extension for the file system, but it’s not actually in the same type as a file. WMF stands for Windows MetaFile. It’s a little-used format and isn’t particularly well known. It was used for a long time and is still used for some things like printing. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that it was replaced by other formats–PNG or JPG for example. Gettysburg wrote the software that managed this transition, “AutoCAD has had a long history in converting to WMF from other image and vector formats.”
The map hasn’t been touched since 1991 and it never appeared on other versions of AutoCAD. For future versions of AutoCAD, they’ve added their Map Type functionality into the Central Standards Document Product (CSD). All new versions of AutoCAD will automatically pick up the changes made to the CSD, and it’s the official knowledge base for AutoCAD. d2c66b5586
