There is a bug in macOS 10.14.0 and 10.14.1 that can cause the \".com.microsoft.rdc.application-data_SUPPORT/_EXTERNAL_DATA\" folder (nested deep inside the /Library folder) to consume a large amount of disk space. To resolve this issue, delete the folder content and upgrade to macOS 10.14.2. Note that a side-effect of deleting the folder contents is that snapshot images assigned to bookmarks will be deleted. These images will be regenerated when reconnecting to the remote PC.
Use Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac to connect to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, admin-provided virtual apps and desktops, or remote PCs. With Microsoft Remote Desktop, you can be productive no matter where you are.
How do I remote desktop form OS X Vs 10.7.5 to Windows XP services Pack 3. Microsoft Office for Macs 2011 with update 14.2.3 is installed on the Mac. I cannot find any instructions on how to set-up and use remote desktop with my desktop PC.
One of my goal is to be able to view the PC desktop while my nephew is using the Khan Academy web site so that I can help him improve his math skills (not a small task). Also, I will need to maintain the PC remotely and keep it running. No one at my nephew's place will have administrator rights on the PC. My intent is to keep the PC for educational use and set-up security approprate of young users.
For a small project here making an instruction manual for some very non-technical users to show them how to connect in remotely using Remote Desktop Connection, I wanted to do a small section for the Mac users with illustrations. The only Mac I have handy is an older 17\" iMac that after somewhat of a battle, I managed to upgrade to 10.7.5 Lion which is as far as this hardware will go. A little while ago I had looked at the Microsoft Remote Desktop app in the AppStore and it worked with 10.7 and newer. Now after getting this machine up to that, I see that the 8.0.33 update of RDC from just last week requires 10.9, taking it out of reach and fitting in nicely with the rest of the story that I will not bore you with.
Microsoft Remote Desktop is one of the best remote desktop clients out there in the market. It now has a Mac version available as well. The Mac version helps users to connect their PC to their Mac and work seamlessly across the machines.
Microsoft Remote Deskop is an effective free tool for managing remote-desktop connections from a Mac. Perfect for those who travel frequently, or those who have a Mac/PC environment at work that they need to interface with, this free app provides most of the basic tools necessary.
Fast and intuitive: Microsoft Remote Desktop's basic tools allow you to access your remote Windows desktop and open common programs, sort through files, and manipulate your machine from a Mac over an Internet connection. This is an invaluable tool.
Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac is a useful free tool that allows you to access your Windows programs and files from a remote Mac. That alone is reason enough to download it, if you work on both systems and need to move files between them often. Remote Desktop is not as robust as other paid tools, but for infrequent transfers or very basic needs, it gets the job done.
Microsoft Remote Desktop is a free-of-charge utility and tool developed by one of the biggest multinational technology companies in the world, Microsoft Corporation. It is a dedicated remote control application that allows you to remotely access computers that run Windows Professional or Enterprise, as well as Windows Server in your Mac device. You can also connect to remote PCs, virtual apps, or desktops in order to access managed resources published by your admin.
This week I have been using OSX alongside Windows. I quickly realized that I needed a good remote desktop connection (terminal server) client for Mac OSX Lion. Here are the primary candidates I considered:
I am having an issue with MS RDP 2.1.1. I have a iMac 27 running Mac OS 10.7.4. If I RDP into a server in full screen mode RPD crashes. If I RDP into the same server and have the display option set to window frame I am able to connect however if I use the mac 3 finger gester to switch to a different desktop the RDP window/session moves itself to the active desktop. This just started occurring today as I have not have this issues in the past, and have been using this version of RDP for quiet sometime. Our Macbook with the same Mac OS and RDP seems to perform without the above mentioned issue. PLEASE HELP!
Windows systems come with a built-in protocol for remote connections. Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) provides a graphical interface through which users can connect to a remote computer via a network connection. However, there are now several RDP alternatives on the market, designed to address potential functionality gaps. My top recommendation for a remote desktop alternative is SolarWinds Dameware, offering an on-premises and a cloud version, both designed to facilitate the easy handling of remote desktop issues.
Dameware Remote Support is a significant upgrade from RDP, designed to provide all of the same features as the Microsoft protocol along with added features that help enhance problem resolution and cybersecurity on remote devices. Like RDP, DRS makes it easy to connect remotely to other computers. With additional features built to go beyond those in RDP, DRS makes for a comprehensive and easy-to-use remote desktop connection manager alternative.
Like RDP, DRS offers multi-platform remote access, with support for Mac, Windows, and Linux computers. In an enterprise setting, for example, it can work across your Windows desktops, Linux servers, and Mac devices staff may connect with from home. That includes providing access to computers from Android and Apple devices including tablets, which are not supported in RDP.
Royal TS distinguishes itself from RDP when it comes to credential allocation. While RDP lets you save and share credentials between teammates, it does not let you save credentials tied to a remote desktop gateway. Not only does Royal TS let you create objects and folders and dynamically allocate credentials, it also lets you link folders and connections to inherit credentials. These features are designed to facilitate strong access and security measures.
Terminals is an open-source remote desktop manager intended to manage the problem of controlling multiple connections simultaneously. It integrates RDP as one of the protocols it supports, but also works with VNC, VMRC, SSH, Telnet, RAS, Citrix ICA, and HTTP and HTTPs.
Below you will find links to downloads and instructions to use the Virtual Network Computing (VNC) standard. VNC enables raw screen sharing and remote control of the mouse and keyboard. In that respect, it's really good for remote technical support or tutoring. Because VNC is a standard system, you can connect from one computer to another using VNC software from different publishers.
Another interesting note: Before Mac OS X Lion, the Screen Sharing function worked just like conventional VNC. That is, upon connecting, you would immediately see and control the remote screen concurrently with the user at that computer. But, as of Mac OS X Lion, you also have to log in using an account on the target Mac computer (even after you already typed the Screen Sharing password). If you log in with the same account as the person logged in already, you will both see the same screen, but this means the user will have to give you his password. If you use a different account, you will be controlling the computer in a separate desktop session (without affecting the currently logged-in user's session). It's kind of cool you can do that, but it's not helpful if you want to provide remote support or tutoring. Again, this change in function only applies to the built-in Screen Sharing function in the Mac OS; if you use RealVNC, it works the same in any version of OS X.
Proprietary RDP client solutions such as rdpclient are available as a stand-alone application or embedded with client hardware. A new access paradigm, browser-based access, has enabled users to access Windows desktops and applications on any RDP hosts, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDS) Session Hosts (Terminal Services) and virtual desktops, as well as remote physical PCs.
