The OrangeCrab is a feather form factor electronics development board. For the Lattice ECP5 FPGA. The board follows the slim feather board specification from Adafruit. The FPGA is compatible with all open source toolchains and is perfect for experimenting with RISC-V cores. There aren't many FPGA boards available that make use of the ECP5, but here are some distinct features that set this board apart:
ULX3S is a fully open source, compact, robust, and affordable FPGA devboard equipped with a balanced selection of additional components andexpansions. Although it was designed primarily as a teaching tool formastering the principles of digital circuit design, ULX3S incorporatesa wide array of features and interfaces that allow it to serve as abroadly useful module for installation in complex devices.
Built around a powerful Lattice Semiconductor ECP5-series FPGA chipand supported by the latest open-source toolchains, ULX3S is one ofthe most powerful and desirable platforms available for FPGAenthusiasts. It comes equipped with onboard Wi-Fi, display, buttons,LEDs, and storage. Flash it with an over-the-air (OTA) update usingthe Wi-Fi connection or take advantage of the onboard OLED display andbuttons to browse the contents of an SD card and select a bitstream.
Farnell has expanded its range of single board computer (SBC) development kits with the addition of the OrangeCrab r0.2 open-source FPGA development board from Good Stuff Department. The OrangeCrab expertly combines the ultra-compact Adafruit Feather form factor that electronic designers love with the high power normally associated with much larger Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) development boards.
Romain Soreau, Head of SBC at Farnell, explains:- The ultra-compact, feature packed and versatile OrangeCrab open-source FPGA development board is a great addition to our extensive portfolio of SBC development boards and evaluation kits. The OrangeCrab is a skilfully designed and versatile board that can be used for a range of professional applications - or by hobbyists with a keen interest in FPGA hardware.
So, there are 3 Lattice based FPGA boards from Muse Lab in SO-DIMM form factor, with compatible carrier boards. All of them support open source toolchain, have big enough resources. If you don't want to solder 0.4mm pitch SO-DIMM, ext board will work as a breakout.I think it makes sense to consider it as D-Lev core board replacement in future version of D-Lev.When 25K LUTs is not enough, 40K board may be used instead.
We are excited about the OrangeCrab FPGA dev board by Greg Davill as it packs the power of an ECP5 FPGA, which has an open source design flow, and 128MB DDR3 RAM into the Adafruit Feather form-factor:
Newark has expanded its range of single board computer (SBC) development kits with the addition of the OrangeCrab r0.2 open-source FPGA development board from Good Stuff Department. The OrangeCrab expertly combines the ultra-compact Adafruit Feather form factor that electronic designers love with the high power normally associated with much larger field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) development boards. The OrangeCrab is based on the Lattice EPC5 FPGA and features two memory configurations including the ECP5 25F/128Mbit and ECP5 85F/521Mbit. The FPGA is compatible with open-source toolchain and is perfect for experimenting with RISC-V and other softcore SoCs. The variety of peripherals built into the OrangeCrab makes it suitable for many real-world applications. Users can port over CircuitPython to the OrangeCrab which is more than capable of hosting the interpreter. While not currently implemented, developers are free to target the FPGA itself with gateware-synthesized HDL. For those more familiar with an SoC-level development platform, the ECP5 can run a RISC-V softcore. The LiteX project also provides developers with increased flexibility and capability. 2b1af7f3a8
